Alex Vesia and his wife Kayla are mourning the heartbreaking loss of their baby.

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia and his wife, Kayla, are grieving the heartbreaking loss of their baby daughter. On Friday, November 7, the couple released a joint statement revealing that their child, Sterling Sol Vesia, was stillborn. Alongside a touching photo of their hands resting on their daughter’s, they wrote, “Our little angel. We love you forever and you’re with us always.” They shared that Sterling passed away on Sunday, October 26, and expressed that there were no words to describe their pain, though they would forever hold her memory close.

In their message, Alex and Kayla extended heartfelt gratitude to the Dodgers organization for their love and support following the team’s World Series victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on November 1. “Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them,” they wrote. The couple also thanked the Dodgers community, the Blue Jays, and baseball fans everywhere for their messages of compassion, saying the outpouring of support had brought them comfort during their darkest days.

They concluded their statement by acknowledging the medical professionals who cared for Kayla and baby Sterling at Cedars-Sinai. “Every person we came across was truly so incredible,” they wrote, signing the post, “With love, The Vesias.” Earlier this year, in April, the couple had joyfully announced that they were expecting their first child. Shortly before the World Series began, the Dodgers confirmed that Vesia would be stepping away from the team to handle a “deeply personal family matter.”

During the World Series, both the Dodgers and their fans paid tribute to Vesia. Players honored him by wearing his number, 51, on their caps during Game 3 against the Blue Jays at Dodger Stadium on October 27. Teammates, including pitcher Justin Wrobleski, showed solidarity, and Clayton Kershaw expressed how much Vesia meant to the team. “He’s a huge part of the bullpen, so we wanted to do something to honor him,” Kershaw said. Team executives, including Andrew Friedman, emphasized that supporting Vesia and his family was far more important than baseball, reflecting the deep compassion shared throughout the Dodgers organization.
